Run the front tap test before you call anyone
Go to the garden tap closest to your water meter, usually at the front boundary, and open it fully. That tap sits before most of your internal pipework, so it tells you whether the problem is the supply coming in or something inside your home. If the front tap blasts out strongly but your shower dribbles, the fault is inside the property. If the front tap is weak too, the problem sits at the meter, the pressure limiting valve, or the street main. Do the same check at a neighbour's front tap if you can. Weak pressure at their place as well points to the network, and that is a call to the City of Gold Coast rather than a plumber. This one test saves a lot of people a callout, and we would rather you do it than pay us to do it for you.
A failing pressure limiting valve is the most common whole-house cause
Queensland plumbing standards cap water pressure at outlets at 500 kPa under AS/NZS 3500.1, so most Gold Coast homes built or replumbed in the last couple of decades have a pressure limiting valve (PLV) near the meter. These valves do not last forever. When one starts to fail it can choke flow down well below its rated setting, and the whole house feels flat at once. The tell is a home that lost pressure gradually or suddenly across every tap, hot and cold alike, with a strong supply at the boundary. A failed PLV is a straightforward swap on the day. A hidden leak can steal pressure and money at the same time
A concealed leak underground or under the slab bleeds off flow before it reaches your taps, and it shows up on your water bill before it shows up on your lawn. Check your water meter with every tap and appliance off. If the dials still creep, water is escaping somewhere. Corroded pipe chokes older Gold Coast homes from the inside
Pre-1980s homes in suburbs with original galvanised steel pipework lose pressure the slow way. Rust builds up inside the pipe wall until a 20 mm line is passing water through a channel the width of a pencil. The pattern is distinctive: pressure that has been mediocre for years, worse on hot than cold, and worst at the fixture furthest from the meter. Single-fixture problems are different again. One weak tap or shower is usually a blocked aerator, a partly closed isolation valve, a kinked flexi hose or a worn mixer cartridge, and a tap repair sits at $80 to $180 plus parts.

When low pressure is the network and not your house
The Gold Coast water network generally delivers healthy pressure, but hilltop streets, top-floor units and homes at the end of long dead-end mains can sit near the low end of the band.
