Licensed Gas Fitter Gold Coast

Gas leak, cooktop install, hot water conversion, full compliance certification.

Gas work in QLD is licence-only.

Anyone touching a gas line, fitting or appliance in Queensland needs a gas work licence. We're fully QBCC-licensed gas fitters and every job comes with a compliance certificate. If a plumber offers to do gas work without the gas endorsement, they're breaking the law, your insurance won't cover anything that goes wrong, and the work can be ordered removed by the regulator.

The gas endorsement is a separate licence from plumbing, many plumbers don't hold it. Ask before you book.

What we cover.

  • Gas leak detection (electronic methane detector, pressure testing)
  • Gas leak repair (fitting replacement, line replacement)
  • New natural gas line installs, meter to appliance
  • LPG bottle gas installs and changeover regulator work
  • Cooktop install (gas, induction, and gas-to-induction conversions)
  • Gas oven install
  • Gas hot water system installs (storage and continuous flow)
  • Hot water conversions (electric-to-gas, gas-to-heat-pump)
  • Gas heater connections (room heaters, wall units)
  • BBQ point install and bayonet connections
  • Pool/spa gas heater installs
  • Gas line decommissioning (when removing all gas from a home)
  • Compliance certification for every job

Smell gas? Do these things, in order.

  1. Don't switch anything electrical on or off. Don't flick lights. Don't use the phone inside. A spark from a switch is enough to ignite a gas-air mix.
  2. Don't use any open flame. Obvious, but worth saying.
  3. Open windows and external doors if you can do it without crossing through where the smell is strongest.
  4. Turn the gas off at the meter. Lever quarter-turns 90° to OFF. For LPG bottles, turn the valve on the bottle clockwise until it stops.
  5. Get everyone outside. Including pets.
  6. Call from outside. Ring us on 0472 657 042 any time, or for a very serious leak call 000.

Never use a lighter or match to "test" for gas. Never use ventilation fans (motor sparks). Never try to fix it yourself, gas work is licence-only.

Cooktop installs, what to know before you buy.

Some specifics for cooktop installs:

  • Gas cooktops: need a gas point in the right location for the cooktop you've chosen. The point is rarely already there in the right spot, so we usually run a new line during the install. The gas connection includes a regulator if needed and an isolation valve under the cabinet.
  • Induction cooktops: not our work (electrical). But if you're converting from gas to induction, we decommission the gas line and certify it. Often you can cap the existing gas line under the bench and leave it for a future owner.
  • Wall ovens: almost always electric. We don't install electric appliances but we coordinate with the sparkie.

Heads-up on warranty: most manufacturers require a licensed gas fitter to install the cooktop or the warranty's void. Some cheap online cooktops come without WaterMark/AGA approval, these are technically illegal to install in Australia. Check before you buy.

Natural gas vs LPG, which is which.

Natural gas is piped from a council main into a meter at your property. Most established Gold Coast suburbs have mains gas; outer estates and acreage often don't. Continuous supply, no bottle changeovers, generally cheaper to run.

LPG (bottle gas) uses 45kg or 90kg bottles connected to a regulator. Used where there's no mains gas, most acreage, some newer estates, some apartments. Bottles get exchanged when empty (regulator usually switches to a backup bottle automatically). Higher running cost, but the install is simpler and there's no connection fee to a gas retailer.

We work with both. If you're not sure which you have, look at the meter, natural gas has a council meter at the boundary, LPG has bottles standing somewhere on the property.

Compliance certificates, why they matter.

Every gas job in QLD requires a compliance certificate. We issue one for every job, even small ones like a cooktop install. What the certificate does:

  • Keeps your home insurance valid (insurers will void claims on uncertified gas work)
  • Required for sale of the property (conveyancer checks for outstanding gas certs)
  • Required for landlords (lessor's safety obligations)
  • Records the work for the regulator

If you've ever bought a property with uncertified gas work, you'll know it's a pain to sort out later. Make sure every gas job is certified at the time it's done.

Annual gas appliance servicing.

Manufacturers recommend annual servicing of gas hot water, gas heaters, and gas cooktops past year 5. We do these regularly:

  • Clean burners, check flame patterns (should be steady blue, not yellow)
  • Test for leaks at every connection
  • Check regulator pressures
  • Inspect flue (if any) for blockages
  • Replace perished flex hoses (5-7 year lifespan)
  • Issue compliance certificate if anything was replaced

Worth it for safety alone. Carbon monoxide from a poorly-maintained gas heater is a real risk in winter.

Gas fitting FAQ.

  • Can I install my own gas cooktop? No. Illegal in QLD. Insurance void. Don't do it.
  • Can I move my gas bottle myself? Moving a connected bottle, no. Swapping a disconnected (empty) bottle, yes.
  • Can I plumb in a new gas point? No, licence only.
  • Is LPG safer than natural gas? Different risks. LPG is heavier than air (pools at floor level if leaking); natural gas is lighter (disperses up).
  • Do you do compliance certificates for gas work done by someone else? No, we can only certify our own work. If you've inherited uncertified gas work, we have to inspect and effectively re-do the work to certify it.
