Not necessarily. A good spindle tap that has been properly reseated and rewashered seals beautifully and lasts for years, and repairs stay in the $80 to $180 plus parts range. Switching to mixers makes sense during a bathroom or kitchen update, or when arthritis makes quarter-turn handles genuinely easier to live with.
